I am a former teacher who spent nearly 12 years teaching nursery through 12th grade in Afghanistan, Kurdistan, Indigenous schools in the Alaskan bush and a residential center for troubled teens who were in foster care or on parole or just having a life crisis. I have a BA in History with a concentration in education, a graduate certificate in Native American Studies (I was in the full master's program but couldn't find time to relocate to Montana to get the full Masters which required on campus courses) and 18 credits of a MAT in Early Childhood Special Education which I currently have on hold. I've since decided to pause my teaching career and instead am spending hours each day learning to read the Quran (I watch memorization videos on Youtube but I've only memorized the short ones, the longer ones I'm just trying to learn to read in Arabic). I pray 5 times a day and am currently working at my friends campground and welding shop on a part-time basis while I instead devote this year to learning to read the Quran. I was in the process of trying to open a school in Helmand, Afghanistan of which I have visited twice (that's Helmand, I've visited other provinces more and actually lived in Kabul) but didn't succeed. I hope one day the Taliban will allow me to teach there.
